Poddar included in India Red team for Deodhar Trophy

Odisha skipper Govinda Poddar has been selected in the India `Red` team for the BD Deodhar Trophy Cricket Tournament, scheduled to be held at Vishakhapatnam from March 25 to 29, 2017. Tamil Nadu, the winners of 2017 Vijay Hazare Trophy, is the other team in fray. Parthiv Patel will lead India `Red’ while India `Blue` will be captained by Rohit Sharma.

In the Vijay Hazare Trophy Group-A League, Rourkela allrounder Poddar scored a total of 359 runs in six matches at an average of 71.80 and a strike rate of 96.24. He hit two hundreds and two fifties and his highest score was 120. As an off-spin bowler, Poddar bowled 36 overs in six matches and bagged five wickets for 173 runs with an average of 34.60, strike rate of 43.2 and economy of 4.80. His best bowling effort was two for 30.

Earlier, Odisha, under his captaincy qualified for the quarter-finals in Ranji Trophy. Odisha Cricket Association Working Committee Chairman Dhiren Pallai congratulated Poddar for his selection and wished him best of luck.
